JACKSON, MS --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team fell short in a 90-65 loss to the Jackson State Lady Tigers on the road Monday.
The Panthers (14-14, 11-6) had three players score in double figures, led by Diana Rosenthal, who had 16 points. Kennedy Paul tacked on 14 points and two steals and Mikayla Hutchinson chipped in as well with 12 points.
TaMiracle Taylor pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second-chance opportunities for Prairie View A&M, grabbing 10 boards and turning them into 10 second-chance points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Monday's game, forcing 15 Jackson State turnovers while committing 12. Those takeaways turned into 11 points on the other end of the floor. Paul's two steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 23-12 at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 44-28 halftime deficit.
Jackson State continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 57-37 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run to trim its deficit to 57-42 with 1:28 to go in the third. Jackson State countered and stretched its lead to 65-42 heading into the fourth. Prairie View A&M scored four fast-break points in the quarter.
Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 90-65. Prairie View A&M got up and down the court quickly in the quarter, scoring six fast break points.
