PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Hegel Augustin and Yahuza Rasas both recorded double-doubles, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 60-58 at home Saturday.
The Panthers (8-15, 4-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Augustin, who recorded a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Rasas added a double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds and Jeremiah Gambrell helped out with 11 points off of the bench.
Led by Augustin's six offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 12 boards that resulted in 12 second chance points.
Prairie View A&M's defense held Bethune-Cookman to only 33.3 percent shooting from the field. The Panthers also limited Zion Harmon to 3-of-13 shooting in the game. The Wildcats did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with six offensive rebounds and managed four second chance points while Prairie View A&M cleared 35 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After falling behind 25-19, Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run with 8:41 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Tekorian Smith, to tie the game at 25. Bethune-Cookman then pulled ahead, sending the Panthers into halftime down 39-33.
Bethune-Cookman kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 51-42 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run to shrink the deficit to 51-50 with 6:11 to go in the contest. Bethune-Cookman responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 60-58. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 12 of its 25 total points.
