Prairie View A&M falls to Bethune-Cookman

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 19-point showing from the bench but fell 59-49 to the Bethune-Cookman Lady Wildcats at home Saturday.

The Panthers (9-12, 6-4) had two players score in double figures, led by TaMiracle Taylor, who had 15 points. Diana Rosenthal added 10 points and Gerlyn Smith added nine points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks.

The Prairie View A&M defense caused its share of mistakes in Saturday's game, forcing 18 Bethune-Cookman turnovers. Those takeaways turned into 10 points on the other end of the floor. Kennedy Paul led the way individually for the Panthers with one steal.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M kept it close in the first quarter but entered the second frame down 14-12.

The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 34-19 halftime deficit.

Bethune-Cookman continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 42-23 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Tamiracle Taylor, to trim its deficit to 42-28 with zero seconds to go in the third, a score which remained until the end of the third quarter. Prairie View A&M played well near the basket, scoring six of its nine points in the paint.

Prairie View A&M narrowed its deficit to 50-39 before going on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 50-44 with 2:34 to go in the contest. Bethune-Cookman responded and outscored the Lady Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 59-49. Prairie View A&M got a boost from its bench in the period, with non-starters scoring 10 of its 21 total points.
