All Prairie View A&M Starters reach base in Weekend Sweep over UAPB

Game One

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers broke through after a 5-5 tie in the seventh inning to knock off the UAPB Golden Lions 6-5 Saturday.

Senior Joshua Larzabal (1-1) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (7-16, ). The right-hander went 2.1 shutout innings without giving up a hit, allowing no walks and striking out four.

Senior Zachary Trevino led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 3-for-4 in the ballgame with a double. Sophomore Blake Redman compiled a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 2-for-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the third inning. Prairie View A&M managed to push across two runs in the inning.

The Panthers lost the lead they built in the third but got back on the board in the seventh trailing 5-2. which evened the score at 5-5.

That 5-5 tie turned into a 6-5 Prairie View A&M lead in the eighth. The score remained 6-5 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M held on for the win.

Game Two

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --
Prairie View A&M got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Panthers put five runs on the board and defeat the UAPB Golden Lions 5-2 Saturday.

Sophomore Matthew Krall (2-1) got the win for Prairie View A&M (8-16, ). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on three hits, allowing three walks and striking out four. Senior Matthew Sandoval also pitched well, going two shutout innings while allowing one hit.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were paced by junior Derrek Lathon, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Senior Sebastian Coria compiled a standout day at the plate as well, going 2-for-3 with a double and a walk. Sophomore Garrison Weiss also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding a double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice, with one run coming across on Lathon's single.

The Panthers then held the Golden Lions scoreless before expanding their lead in the sixth inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Lathon, which brought the Panther's lead to 3-1.

Prairie View A&M kept UAPB scoreless before expanding their lead to 5-1 the following inning. The Panthers scored twice, with one run coming across on senior Alex Martinez's single. UAPB put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Prairie View A&M still held on for the 5-2 win.
