SAN ANTONIO, TX --Senior Alex Martinez went 1-for-4 with a home run and an RBI for the Prairie View A&M Panthers in a 6-2 loss to the Incarnate Word Cardinals on Tuesday.
Sophomore Kyle Carrick (0-2) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (8-17) and took the loss. Sophomore Danny McDay was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 4.1 innings, giving up three runs, one earned, on three hits, with three walks and one strikeout.
At the plate, the Panthers were led by Martinez, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and an RBI. Senior Sebastian Coria put together a noteworthy performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4. Sophomore Benjamin Ybarra also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding a double.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Martinez put Prairie View A&M on the board with a two-out solo home run off senior Carson Rollins.
The Panthers kept the deficit at 3-1 before closing the gap further in the seventh. Coria came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which tightened the Cardinals lead to 3-2. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Incarnate Word added three runs to their tally on the way to a 6-2 final.
