Prairie View A&M falls to Southern 5-4 despite eighth-inning lead; Panthers Out hits SU but falls in Game Two

GAME 1 | Southern 5, Prairie View A&M 4
BATON ROUGE, LA --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 4-2 lead into the eighth inning, but could not hang on and fell 5-4 to the Southern Jaguars Tuesday.

Sophomore Danny McKay (0-2) came out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (11-20, ) and took the loss.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were led by sophomore Jayden Williams, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a double and two RBI. Freshman Michael Burroughs put together a standout effort as well, going 2-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 1-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from Williams.

The Panthers then lost some of their lead, expanding on their advantage in the seventh inning after the Jaguars cut it to 3-2. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Burroughs, which brought the Panthers lead to 4-2. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Southern scored three times over the remaining two innings to grab the 5-4 win.

BATON ROUGE, LA --Despite picking up eight hits in the ballgame and out-hitting Southern, Prairie View A&M was unable to push across more runs, as the Panthers fell to the Jaguars 4-3.

Junior Tyrone Ty (0-3) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (11-21, ) and took the loss. Sophomore Matthew Krall was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing 2.1 scoreless innings, allowing one hit, with one walk and one strikeout.

At the plate, the Panthers were paced by sophomore Garrison Weiss, who went 2-for-4 on the day with two RBI. Senior Zachary Trevino furnished a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Senior Alex Martinez also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in four trips to the plate while adding a double.
