Women's Outdoor Track & Field Stride Well at Carl Knight Invitational

NACOGDOCHES – The Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers continue to display dominance on the track and the field, as they completed two days of competition at the Carl Knight Invitational hosted by Stephen F. Austin University at the Homer Bryce Stadium.

The team walked away with six first-place finishes as junior Asjah Harris led the charge with victories in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m, and 4x400m relays. 

Harris won the 100m dash with a new personal best time of 11.68 while Junior Sydnee Stewart finished 3rd in the event with her season's best 11.86.  Senior Darnisha Lykes was 5th with a time of 11.88.  The three ladies along with senior Antwanique Kinsler crossed the line first in the women's 4x100m relay with a new season's best time of 45.75.

Kinsler also finished in first place in the women's 400m dash with a conference-leading time of 54.28.  Freshman Jasir Miller finished 6th while junior Jai'Lynn Smith had an 8th place finish in the same event.  In the women's 200m Kinsler placed 3rd with a personal best time of 24.13, while the event was won by Harris who posted a personal best time of 23.78.

The lady hurdlers had an outstanding performance led by senior Jyzmin Gray who finished 2nd with a season's best time of 14.00 and freshmen Sanai Kintchen and Kara Stewart finished 5th and 6th respectively both having personal best performances with times of 14.77 for Kintchen and 14.71 for Stewart.  Those performances came in the preliminary rounds.

The quartet of Harris, Jalen Elrod, Jada Sabir, and Kinsler put together the most exciting race of the day producing a blazing anchor leg split (53.6) on the women's 4x400m relay to grab the victory over the host team the SFA Lady Lumberjacks going into the homestretch and crossed the line with a new conference-leading time of 3:43.91.

In the long-distance events, junior Runelda Jackson led with a 3rd place season's best performance in the women's 5000m run.  Senior Naomi Davis and sophomore Jourdan Garnett finished in 6th and 8th place respectively in the women's 3000m steeplechase.

The field events were led by sophomore Savoria Anderson whose mark of 11.82m led all competitors in the women's triple jump, while sophomore Morgan Davila was 3rd with her best jump of 11.41m.
Freshman throwers Kaylan Woodrow and Krislyn Green were both outstanding having huge performances in the discus and shot-put events.  Woodrow's throw of 38.35m placed her in the top eight on the SWAC performance list.  The Lady Panthers currently hold 29 of the top eight performances in 21 events.
