PINE BLUFF, Arkansas --Junior T. Norris collected four RBIs to help lead the Prairie View A&M Panthers past the UAPB Golden Lions 12-4 on Sunday.
Sophomore M. Krall (3-1) started on the mound and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (14-21, ). The right-hander went five innings, giving up two runs, one earned, on two hits, allowing five walks and striking out two. Sophomore D. McKay also made an impact on the mound for the Panthers, throwing two innings, giving up one run on one hit, with no walks and one strikeout.
Norris went 1-for-4 in addition to his four RBIs for the Panthers. Junior D. Lathon put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-3 with a triple, a walk and an RBI. Freshman A. Donatto also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding three walks and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers got on the board immediately, starting their scoring with one run in the top of the first inning. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from senior A. Martinez, scoring Donatto from second base.
The Golden Lions then tied the ballgame at one before the Panthers came back to reclaim their advantage in the fourth inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for eight runs, highlighted by a grand slam off the bat of Norris, which brought the score to 9-1 in favor of the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M held UAPB scoreless before building their lead to 10-1 the following inning.
The Golden Lions gained ground, closing the gap to 10-2 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the seventh. Sophomore J. Williams crossed home plate with the lone run of the inning for the Panthers, bringing the score to 11-2 in favor of Prairie View A&M.
UAPB got within 11-4 until the Panthers scored again in the ninth inning to stretch its lead to 12-4. Williams came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board. The score remained 12-4 for the rest of the game, as the Panthers coasted to the win.
