Prairie View A&M rallies from fifth-inning deficit, defeats Alcorn State 20-10 in Historic game

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fought back from down 10-8 in the fifth inning to defeat the Alcorn State Braves 20-10 Sunday.

Freshman Elijah Breeden (2-3) picked up the victory out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (16-23, 12-5). The right-hander went four innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on six hits, allowing three walks and striking out four.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were led by sophomore Blake Redman, who went 3-for-3 on the day with a double, two walks and four RBI. Senior Sebastian Coria compiled a standout day at the dish as well, going 2-for-3 with two walks and four RBI. Freshman Marshal Jonas also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together three hits in five trips to the plate while adding a double and three RBI.  For the first time this season the Panthers pulled out 12 runs in one inning (6th) and put 20 runds on the board.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 2-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the first inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up four runs, including a two-run single off the bat of Coria.

The Panthers lost the lead they built in the first, but got back on the board in the fifth trailing 10-4. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for four runs, highlighted by a one-run flyout off the bat of Jonas, which tightened the Braves lead to 10-8.

Prairie View A&M kept the Braves off the scoreboard before rallying to grab a 20-10 lead in the sixth. The Panthers bats heated up in the inning, scoring 12 runs, including a three-run double off the bat of Redman and a two-run single from Coria. The score remained 20-10 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.
