Prairie View A&M drops matchup 11-10 to Grambling despite late lead

GRAMBLING, La. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 10-9 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 11-10 to the Grambling Tigers Saturday.

Senior Zach Dews (0-1) came out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (17-25, 13-6) and took the loss.

Sophomore Jayden Williams led the way offensively for the Panthers, going 2-for-3 in the ballgame with a double, a walk and three RBI. Junior Paul Castro put together a noteworthy performance at the plate as well, going 3-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Freshman Marshal Jonas also chipped in, going 2-for-5 for Prairie View A&M with a double and an RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the second inning. Prairie View A&M put up a three spot, the big hit coming by way of a run-scoring double off the bat of Castro.

After the Tigers rallied to tie the ballgame at three, the Panthers came back to retake the lead in the sixth inning. The Prairie View A&M offense exploded for six runs, highlighted by a two-run single off the bat of Williams, which brought the score to 9-3 in favor of the Panthers.

Grambling narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 9-6 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 10-6 in the seventh inning. The Panthers notched a run on Williams' two-out RBI double. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Grambling scored five times over the remaining two innings to grab the 11-10 win.
