Garcia and Nunez combine for 8 in Prairie View A&M's 11-1 victory against Southern

BATON ROUGE, LA --Junior Audrey Garcia and freshman Mia Nunez each collected four hits to help propel the Prairie View A&M Lady Panthers over the Southern Lady Jaguars 11-1 on Saturday taking the three-game sweep and earning them a Western Division Championship title.

Sophomore Cailin Massey (10-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (26-17, ). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing no walks, and striking out six.

In addition to her four hits, Nunez had a double, a triple, and four RBI to lead the Lady Panthers. Garcia added a double and two RBI to her four-hit performance as well. Junior Jaylyn Davis also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding a double, a home run, and two RBI.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Lady Panthers got on the scoreboard first, starting in the third inning. Prairie View A&M scratched across a run off senior Raquel Latta when Nunez tripled in Garcia.

The Lady Panthers then held the Lady Jaguars scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Prairie View A&M scored three times, including once on Garcia's RBI double, which brought the Lady Panther's lead to 4-0.

Southern narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 4-1 before the Lady Panthers stretched the advantage to 7-1 in the fifth inning. The Lady Panthers notched three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run homer from Davis.

Prairie View A&M kept the Lady Jaguars scoreless before their offense got things rolling the next inning. The Lady Panthers scored four runs in the inning, highlighted by a one-run flyout off the bat of Nunez, bringing the score to 11-1 in favor of Prairie View A&M. The score remained 11-1 for the rest of the game, as the Lady Panthers coasted to the win.
