PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Brian Myles collected a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Alabama State Hornets 74-67 at home Saturday.
The Panthers (7-12, 2-4) had four players score in double figures, led by Myles, who had a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Charles Smith IV tacked on 14 points and three steals and Horton, Jr.,Orlando chipped in as well with 11 points and two steals.
Prairie View A&M forced 17 Alabama State turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Saturday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 14 points on the other end of the floor. Smith IV's three steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
After falling behind 22-15, Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run with 9:40 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Myles, to take a 23-22 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 39-31.
Alabama State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 65-54 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run, finished off by Javontae Hopkins' layup, to shrink the deficit to 65-60 with 3:24 to go in the contest. Alabama State responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 74-67. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 36 points in the lane.
