Big game from Myles, not enough in Prairie View A&M's 79-58 loss to Southern

BATON ROUGE, LA --Brian Myles and Lane, Jr.,Charles combined to score 36 total points - 62.1 percent of Prairie View A&M's points - but the Panthers fell to the Southern Jaguars 79-58 on the road Monday.

Myles had a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Panthers (5-10, 0-2). Lane, Jr.,Charles tacked on 18 points off of the bench and Charles Smith IV chipped in as well with 10 points and two steals.

Myles pulled down four offensive rebounds to lead the Prairie View A&M offense which grabbed 10 boards and turned them into 11 second chance points.

Prairie View A&M forced 16 Southern turnovers while committing 15 themselves in Monday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into six points on the offensive end of the floor. Kevin McGaskey led the way individually with three steals.

How It Happened

After falling behind 8-0, Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run with 15:24 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Myles, to narrow its deficit to 8-7. Southern answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Panthers down 41-34 entering halftime.

Southern kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 73-49 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Charles Smith Iv's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 73-54 with 2:44 to go in the contest. Southern responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 79-58. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 16 of its 24 points in the lane.
