WICHITA, KS --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 15-point performance from the bench, but fell 74-45 to the Wichita State Shockers on the road Monday. In a challenging road encounter the women's basketball team faced a tough defeat at the hands of Wichita St. Shockers at Charles Koch Arena, Wichita, KS.
The Panthers, determined but overpowered, couldn't close the gap by the final buzzer. Amauri Williams led the scoring for Prairie View A&M with 13 points. Other notable performances included Nia Jordan, who battled for eight rebounds and six points. Kaci Chairs helped out with five points off of the bench. The Panthers tried to turn the tide with a collective defensive effort.
Ash'a Thompson contributed significantly with three steals and four rebounds. Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Wichita State shots in the contest, coming away with seven blocks. Laila Robinson led the way individually for the Panthers with two rejections. Despite their efforts, the Shockers maintained control, securing the victory.
Prairie View A&M's record now stands at 2-4 overall. They look forward to bouncing back in their next scheduled match against Western Michigan on December 17, 2024. As they prepare for future conflicts, the Panthers aim to strengthen their gameplay and strategy.
How It Happened
After falling behind 3-1, Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run with 5:57 left in the first quarter to take a 7-3 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered the second quarter down 15-8.
The Panthers continued loosing ground in the second quarter and faced a 36-18 halftime deficit.
Prairie View A&M started to cut into the deficit after halftime, bringing it to 55-38 by the end of the third quarter. Prairie View A&M took advantage of three Wichita State turnovers in the quarter, scoring seven points off of takeaways.
Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 74-45. Prairie View A&M fired away from deep in the quarter, knocking down one shot to account for three of its seven points.
