DAYTONA BEACH, FL --Charles Lane, Jr. scored 22 points, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats 84-78 on the road Saturday.
The Panthers (9-14, 4-6) had four players score in double figures, led by Lane, who had 22 points. Brian Myles added a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds and Javontae Hopkins chipped in as well with 13 points and five assists.
Led by Hopkins' five offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 13 boards that resulted in 14 second-chance points.
Prairie View A&M forced 15 Bethune-Cookman turnovers while committing 13 themselves in Saturday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 17 points on the offensive end of the floor. Kevin McGaskey led the way individually with three steals.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 40-28 heading into halftime.
Bethune-Cookman kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 66-53 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 66-59 with 7:46 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, but Bethune-Cookman managed to hold on for the 84-78 win. Prairie View A&M made the most of 10 offensive rebounds to tack on 12 second-chance points out of 50 total in the period.
