Hopkins, and Lane lead the Panthers over Florida A&M 61-58

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- Javontae Hopkins, Charles Lane, Jr., and Brian Myles combined to score 48 of Prairie View A&M's 61 total points as the Panthers took down the Florida A&M Rattlers 61-58 on the road Monday.

Hopkins led the Panthers (10-14, 5-6) with 18 points and seven rebounds. Lane added 18 points and two steals off the bench and Myles helped out a double-double with 12 points and 18 rebounds.

Prairie View A&M did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 12 assists while turning the ball over six times. Hopkins' three assists were the most for the Panthers. Charles Smith IV also contributed with three assists of his own.

Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Florida A&M shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Myles' four rejections led the way individually for the Panthers.

How It Happened

After playing to a 6-6 tie, Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run with 16:41 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Myles, to take a 15-6 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 29-27.

After intermission, Prairie View A&M managed to gain control and had a 45-43 lead before going on a 6-0 run, finished off by Jr. Lane's jumper, to grow the lead to 51-43 with 5:39 to go in the contest. The Rattlers narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still held on for the 61-58 win. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 34 points in the lane.
