HOUSTON, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers fell 4-3 in a 10-inning match-up to the UMKC Kangaroos Friday.
Junior Cailin Massey (1-3) started and took the loss in the circle for Prairie View A&M (3-7). The right-hander went 9.2 innings, giving up four runs, three earned, on 11 hits, allowing three walks and striking out three.
Offensively, the Panthers were paced by senior Jaylyn Davis, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a home run and two RBI. Senior Biviana Figueroa put together a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Senior Audrey Garcia also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 2-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the seventh inning. Prairie View A&M plated two runs when Davis left the yard with sophomore Kamya Brown aboard.
The game remained tied until the ninth inning when the Panthers got going again on offense. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Figueroa, which brought the Panthers lead to 3-2. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as UMKC scored two times over the remaining one inning to grab the 4-3 win.
