PINE BLUFF, AR -- Charles Lane, Jr. scored 24 points and Javontae Hopkins had 12 more, but the Panthers fell to the UAPB Golden Lions 72-59 on the road Saturday.
Lane led the Panthers (10-17, 5-9) with 24 points and three steals. Hopkins added 12 points, six rebounds, and two steals and Brian Myles chipped in as well a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Prairie View A&M forced 18 UAPB turnovers while committing 12 themselves in Saturday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Lane had three steals to lead the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 39-27 heading into halftime.
UAPB kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 58-40 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 9-0 run, finished off by Jr. Lane's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 58-49 with 8:01 to go in the contest. UAPB responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 72-59. Prairie View A&M capitalized on nine UAPB turnovers in the period, collecting eight points off those turnovers.
