Big games from , Hopkins not enough in Prairie View A&M's 57-51 loss to Mississippi Valley State

ITTA BENA, MS --Felix, Jr.,Chris and Javontae Hopkins combined to score 34 total points, but the Panthers fell to the Mississippi Valley State Delta Devils 57-51 on the road Monday.

The Panthers (10-18, 5-10) had two players score in double figures, led by Felix, Jr.,Chris, who had 17 points. Hopkins tacked on 17 points and seven rebounds and Brian Myles added seven points, 22 rebounds and two blocks.

Prairie View A&M grabbed 41 rebounds in Monday's game compared to Mississippi Valley State's 32, led by Myles' 22 boards.

The Prairie View A&M defense held Mississippi Valley State shooters to just 33.9 percent from the field, including 28.6 percent from three-point range. The Panthers also kept Donovan Sanders to 3-of-15 shooting in the game. The Delta Devils did not get many second opportunities on the offensive end, as they grabbed only eight offensive rebounds and scored 10 second chance points while Prairie View A&M pulled down 33 defensive rebounds.

How It Happened

After falling behind 10-3, Prairie View A&M went on a 6-0 run with 13:07 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Hopkins, to narrow its deficit to 10-9. Mississippi Valley State answered back and added to its lead, leaving the Panthers down 27-23 entering halftime.

Prairie View A&M narrowed its deficit to 37-36 before going on a 5-0 run to seize a 41-37 lead with 10:14 to go in the contest. Mississippi Valley State re-asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 20-10 the rest of the way to hand Prairie View A&M the 57-51 loss. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 14 of its 28 points in the lane.
