PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Brian Myles notched his 13th double-double with 22 points and 13 rebounds, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Alcorn State Braves 73-65 at home Saturday.
In addition to Myles' solid outing, the Panthers (10-19, 5-11) were led by Javontae Hopkins, who had 18 points and three blocks, and by Kevin McGaskey, who added 12 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Prairie View A&M utilized great ball movement in Saturday's game, piling up 15 assists on 23 made field goals. Individually, Charles Smith, IV lent a helping hand the most for the Panthers with four assists and Charles Lane, Jr. also contributed with three assists of his own.
The Prairie View A&M defense was effective at taking away the basketball in Saturday's game, forcing 15 Alcorn State turnovers while committing 11. Those takeaways turned into 18 points on the other end of the floor. Myles' three steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M started out the scoring by going on an 8-0 run, culminating in a three from Hopkins, to take an early lead with 18:08 left in the first half. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 33-30 advantage. Prairie View A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 18 of its 33 points close to the basket.
Prairie View A&M kept its lead intact before going on a 6-0 run to grow the lead to 61-53 with 6:40 to go in the contest. Alcorn State then asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 20-4 the rest of the way to hand Prairie View A&M the 73-65 loss. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 18 of its 32 points in the lane.
