PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Brian Myles registered his 14th double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Jackson State Tigers 79-74 at home Monday.
The Panthers (10-20, 5-12) had three players score in double figures, led by Charles Smith IV, who had 19 points and two steals. Javontae Hopkins tacked on 16 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals and Myles helped out with a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Myles pulled down three offensive rebounds to pace the Prairie View A&M offense which grabbed 12 boards and turned them into 16 second-chance points.
Prairie View A&M forced 14 Jackson State turnovers while committing just nine themselves in Monday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 18 points on the offensive end of the floor. Hopkins' two steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
After falling behind 16-15, Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run with 13:24 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Myles, to take a 20-16 lead. The Panthers then surrendered that lead and entered halftime down 41-38.
Jackson State kept widening its lead after intermission, constructing a 55-40 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Charles Smith Iv's jumper, to shrink the deficit to 55-47 with 11:59 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, but Jackson State managed to hold on for the 79-74 win. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 36 points in the lane.
