Prairie View A&M never trails in 7-2 win over Southern

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never trailed from there on the way to a 7-2 victory over the Southern Jaguars on Friday.

Senior Breanna Reyna (9-5) started in the circle and picked up the win for Prairie View A&M (19-16, 14-1). The right-hander went seven innings, giving up two runs, zero earned, on five hits, allowing no walks and striking out two.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the bottom of the first inning with the game still scoreless. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, highlighted by a two-RBI double from junior Hannah Garza.

The Panthers then held the Jaguars scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of sophomore Mia Nunez, which brought the Panthers lead to 4-0.

Southern narrowed Prairie View A&M's lead to 4-2 before the Panthers stretched the advantage to 7-2 in the fourth inning. The score remained 7-2 for the rest of the game, as Prairie View A&M coasted to the win.
