LAFAYETTE, La. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers struggled on Tuesday, falling to the No. 19 Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns 11-2 despite the efforts of sophomore Michael Burroughs, who went 1-for-3 with a double and an RBI.
Freshman Corey Battey (1-2) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (14-20) and took the loss. Junior Leonardo Bravo was a bright spot for the Panthers, coming out of the bullpen and throwing one shutout inning, allowing no hits.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by Burroughs, who went 1-for-3 on the day with a double, a walk and an RBI. Senior Marshal Jonas compiled a standout effort as well, going 0-for-1 with three walks. Junior Tyran Norris also chipped in for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers were trailing 6-0 in the sixth inning when they first put runs on the board. Prairie View A&M plated two runs off of Louisiana pitching, one of which was driven in on a run-scoring double off the bat of Burroughs. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Louisiana added five runs to their tally on the way to an 11-2 final.
