Baseball Minority Prospects All-Star Game 2024

A Pair of Prairie View A&M Baseball Players are set to Play in the 4th Annual Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – Prairie View A&M's freshman Michael Smith and Sophomore Michael Burroughs will have the opportunity to participate in the 2024 Minority Baseball Prospects HBCU All-Star Game.  Head Baseball Coach Auntwan Riggins has been invited to be a part of the coaching staff.
 
The game is set to be played Saturday, June 1 at the University of Houston (Darryl & Lori Schroeder Baseball Park) in Houston, Texas.
 
The purpose of this game is to provide a platform to top-level talent coming out of Historical Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) and recognize the tremendous work of the coaches who have molded, developed and support these players.  The teams were selected through an All-Star Vote lead by the guidance of current and former HBCU coaches and players.
 
The players selected will have the opportunity to compete against the best in the game, support the next generation of players through community efforts, highlight the rich history of HBCU's and show Major League scouts that HBCU ball players have what it takes to advance in the game.

Smith, a freshman outfielder from Pensacola, Fla., was a solid presence for the Panthers in his rookie season.  He finished the 2024 baseball season as the third leading batter with a .331 average after playing in all 53 games for Prairie View A&M.  As the lead-off batter Smith slugged a ..592, which led all players.  In his 169 plate appearances Smith posted 65 runs, 56 hits, 13 doubles and nine home runs.  He also had 52 RBI.  On the field he averaged a .940, had 100 total chances and 92 putouts with two assists.

The 6-1, outfielder from Converse, Texas Burroughs, stared in 52 out of the 53 games played.  The Second Team All-Conference honoree led the Panther with a .356 batting average after 194 plate appearances.  Burroughs posted 47 runs, 69 hits, 16 doubles, three triples and five home runs this past season.  He also had 53 RBI.  Out field, Burroughs recorded a .974 fielding percentage with 76 chances and 73 putouts, while having one assist.
