Smith totals three hits in Prairie View A&M's loss to Alabama State

GULFPORT, Miss. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers got a boost from senior Destinee Smith, who strung together three hits in a 7-3 loss to the Alabama State Hornets Tuesday.

Senior Breanna Reyna (11-6) got the ball to start for Prairie View A&M (28-18) and took the loss.

In addition to her three hits, Smith had a double and an RBI to lead the Panthers. Junior Tamera McKnight put together a noteworthy performance as well, going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together zero hits in one trip to the plate while adding three walks.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Trailing 5-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fifth inning. Prairie View A&M got an RBI single from McKnight, scoring freshman Jade Uresti from third base.

The Panthers deficit grew to 7-1 before their offense got back on the scoreboard, cutting into that deficit in the seventh inning. Prairie View A&M brought home a pair, with one run driven in by senior Audrey Garcia's single, which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Hornets. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as neither team scored again in the ballgame.
