GULFPORT, Miss. --Prairie View A&M received contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, helping the Panthers put 10 runs on the board and beat the Southern Jaguars 10-4 Wednesday.
Junior Cailin Massey (8-6) got the win out of the bullpen for Prairie View A&M (29-18). The right-hander went six innings, giving up one run on four hits, allowing no walks and striking out three.
Offensively, the Panthers were led by senior Biviana Figueroa, who went 3-for-4 on the day with three RBI. Senior Jaylyn Davis compiled a noteworthy day at the dish as well, going 1-for-3 with a double, a walk, and an RBI. Sophomore Nya Brown also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding a walk and an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the second inning. Prairie View A&M's offense started clicking and put up six runs, including a one-run single off the bat of Figueroa.
The Panthers then held the Jaguars scoreless before getting back on the board the very next inning. Freshman Jordyn Ferrandino came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M, which brought the score to 7-3 in favor of the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M held Southern scoreless before building their lead to 10-3 in the sixth inning. The Panthers picked up three runs in the frame, two of them coming across on a two-run single off the bat of Figueroa. Southern put one run on the scoreboard before the game was over, but Prairie View A&M still coasted to the 10-4 win.
