Seven Panthers earn 2024 Phil Steele Football Honors

PRAIRIE VIEW - Seven Prairie View A&M football players earned Phil Steele's All-SWAC 2024 preseason All-Conference honors.
 
Shemar Savage and Jalon Cooper were named second-team offense, while Trejon Spiller was named to the third-team.  CJ Pressley and Warren Shankle were both named to the defense second team.  Jamal Marshall and Davier Fairrow were both named to the defense third team.

Savage a senior native of Lompoc, Calif stands 6-4 and weighs 210 pounds had 20 catches for 448 yards with two touchdowns. Savage had a receiving season high of 74 yards vs. Miss. Valley (10.7.23).  Cooper who only played in four games was an anchor on the left side of the offensive line at tackle and guard, respectively. The 6-4, 275, junior O-lineman is a native of Houston.  The Panthers' offense averaged 19.5 ppg, 336.8 ypg., total yards, 160.3 ypg., rushing yards and in passing offense the Panthers had 176.5 ypg.

Spiller, who was a third-team wide receiver recipient is a native of Killeen, Texas he led the team with 25 catches and five touchdowns, and he was second in receiving yards (396).  Caught one pass for a season-high 109 yards vs. Grambling (9.30.23).
 
The accolades continue for Pressley (6-5, 260; Gr., Philadelphia, Pa.), who was named to the  All-SWAC preseason first-team selection.  The veteran defensive lineman made 54 tackles (28 solo), 3.5 sacks, 7.0 tackles for loss, one pass breakup three QB hurries, and one forced fumble.  Pressley made a season-high of eight tackles, 1.5 sacks, 2.5 TFL, and one force fumble vs. Alabama State.  Shankle is another returning four-year veteran for the Panthers. He was seventh on the team in tackles he has a career total of 128 tackles (60 solo).  Shankle is a 6-0, 220; Sr., from Pearland, Texas he had one sack for six yards, and was third in tackles for loss (6.0-21). He made a season-high seven tackles vs. Florida A&M with 1.0 tackles for loss (6yds).  

Marshall a four-year letterman will return as one of the top defensive linemen on the team.  He earned second-team preseason All-Conference, making 29 tackles (10 solo) with 3.5 sacks and 7.5 tackles for loss.  The 6-0 315 Fort Worth, Texas senior had a season-high eight tackles vs. Grambling (9.30.23), with 1.5 tackles for loss vs. Houston Christian (10.14.23), 2.0 Sacks vs Miss. Valley (10.7.23).
 
Fairrow (6-2, 226; Sr., Indianapolis, Ind.) made 24 tackles, 2 sacks, 3.5 tackles for loss, one interception, and one pass defended. Fairrow made eight tackles, 0.5 TFL, vs. Grambling.  

The Panthers have opened fall camp as they are preparing for the 2024 season when they open with Texas Southern on August 31st with a 6 p.m. kickoff.
