EAST LANSING, Michigan -- In a challenging regular season football outing on Saturday, Prairie View A&M University faced a tough opponent in the Michigan State Spartans at East Lansing, Michigan. Under sunny skies, the Prairie View Panthers struggled to find their rhythm and ultimately fell to the Spartans with a final score of 0-40.
Starting the game with high hopes, the Panthers could not secure any touchdowns, trailing 0-27 by halftime. Despite making some notable plays offensively, they couldn't capitalize on these moments to turn the tide. The defense also experienced difficulties, revealing gaps that the Spartans exploited effectively. "We didn't quite get the momentum going like we wanted to," head coach Leonard McDowell commented. "We had some miscues that caused us to lose our footing in some areas. We had some holes in our defense and offensively we made some big plays but could not finish. We can't look at this game going into Southern, we have to look at what we accomplished last year and take it into next Saturday's game."
Scooter Adams totaled 24 yards to lead the Panthers' ground attack in the game, picking up 4.8 yards per carry along the way. Lamagea McDowell also tacked on 14 yards on the ground.
Trejon Spiller pulled in seven catches for 91 yards.
Defensively, Prairie View A&M held up fairly well against the Michigan State rushing attack, holding the Spartans to 188 yards on the ground.
With a current record of 1-3, the Panthers are setting their sights on their next game. They will host Southern at Panther Stadium in Prairie View, Texas, on September 21. As they turn their focus to this upcoming challenge, the team aims to apply the hard-learned lessons from the Spartan encounter to regain their form and confidence.
