Pettway scores 31 points in Prairie View A&M's loss to Jackson State

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Tanahj Pettway scored 31 points, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Jackson State Tigers 79-70 at home Saturday.

The Panthers (4-14, 3-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Pettway, who had 31 points and two steals. Orlando Horton, Jr. tacked on 13 points and four assists off of the bench and Braelon Bush chipped in as well with 10 points, five assists and two steals from the bench.

Prairie View A&M did a great job taking care of the basketball, dishing out 14 assists while turning the ball over four times. Bush's five assists paced the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M forced 17 Jackson State turnovers while committing just four themselves in Saturday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 20 points on the offensive end of the floor. Marcel Bryant led the way individually with two steals.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 36-26 heading into halftime.

Prairie View A&M narrowed its deficit to 37-28 before going on a 5-0 run to shrink the deficit to 37-33 with 17:21 to go in the contest. Jackson State responded and outscored the Panthers the rest of the way, ending the game with a final score of 79-70. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 44 points in the lane.
