PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 16-point performance from the bench, but fell 67-48 to the Jackson State Tigers at home Saturday.
Mikayla Hutchinson led the Panthers (5-10, 2-4) with eight points. Crystal Schultz added 10 points and two steals from the bench and Kaci Chairs chipped in as well with six points.
The Prairie View A&M defense was a problem in Saturday's game, forcing 17 Jackson State turnovers. Those takeaways turned into nine points on the other end of the floor. Schultz's two steals led the way individually for the Panthers.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 19-14 at the end of the first quarter.
The Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 35-17 halftime deficit.
Prairie View A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Panthers faced a 59-28 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 11 total points.
Prairie View A&M narrowed its deficit to 63-33 before going on a 6-0 run to shrink the deficit to 63-39 with 4:40 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept their comeback going, but Jackson State managed to hold on for the 67-48 win. Prairie View A&M took advantage of six Jackson State turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
