BATON ROUGE, La. - Led by a dominant defensive effort that held the Southern air attack to 81 passing yards, Prairie View A&M took down the Jaguars 24-3 on the road Saturday afternoon during Southern's homecoming.
The Panthers improved to 5-2 on the year and 4-0 in Southwestern Athletic Conference play, while the Jaguars fell to 1-6 and 0-3.
Cameron Peters led Prairie View A&M's passing attack with 224 yards through the air, tossing one touchdown without throwing an interception.
Chase Bingmon led all Panthers rushers with 64 yards in the contest, picking up 4.9 yards per carry. Bingmon also added 52 receiving yards. Lamagea McDowell also added 56 yards and two touchdowns on the ground.
Prairie View A&M got solid production from Andre Dennis, who hauled in three catches for 44 yards.
Drew Skartvedt paced the Prairie View A&M defensive effort, collecting one recovered fumble. Malik Gucake added four tackles, 1.0 TFL, one forced fumble, and one recovered fumble and Kamren Amao had seven tackles and one interception in the win.
The Panthers won the turnover battle in Saturday's game, forcing three turnovers while avoiding any giveways, with Prairie View A&M turning those takeaways into 14 points.
Defensively, Prairie View A&M held up fairly well against the Southern offensive attack, holding the Jaguars to 247 total yards.
