DENTON, TX --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell just short in a 72-69 loss to the North Texas Mean Green on the road Sunday.
The Panthers (3-5) had three players score in double figures, led by Tai'Reon Joseph, who had 19 points. Cory Wells added 13 points and two blocks and Jannoy Thomas helped out with 13 points and seven rebounds off of the bench.
Prairie View A&M forced 19 North Texas turnovers while committing 11 themselves in Sunday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 17 points on the other end of the floor. Corey Dunning led the way individually with three steals.
How It Happened
After falling behind 22-21, Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run with 5:29 left in the first half to take a 29-22 lead. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 36-30 advantage. Prairie View A&M got out and ran in the period, scoring eight points on the break.
The Mean Green proceeded to tie things up at 41-41 before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run, finished off by Lance Williams' layup, to seize a 48-41 lead with 13:54 to go in the contest. North Texas then asserted control, outscoring the Panthers 31-21 the rest of the way to hand Prairie View A&M the 72-69 loss. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 24 of its 33 points in the lane.
