HOUSTON, TX --Tanahj Pettway totaled 23 points and Braelon Bush added 20, but the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Texas Southern Tigers 79-63 on the road Saturday.  Despite a close halftime score of 27-28 in favor of Texas Southern, Prairie View A&M could not maintain the momentum in the second half.
Pettway and Bush's stellar scoring performances led the Panthers (4-18, 3-6) in the contest. Pettway tacked on seven rebounds. Marcel Bryant also helped out with 14 points.
Pettway also collected seven rebounds, highlighting his all-round performance in the game. Bush's notable moment came with back-to-back three-pointers toward the end of the contest, although these were not enough to secure a victory. Additional contributions came from Bryant who demonstrated defensive prowess with a block and a steal.
Despite the loss, several Panthers players put in noteworthy numbers. Orlando Horton Jr. marked his defensive presence with a block and a steal, while Elijah Terry replicated this defensive effort with similar stats. The rebounds were evenly spread among the team with contributions from Zaakir Sawyer, Ryan Bolton Jr., and several others who ensured Prairie View A&M stayed competitive throughout the game.
Looking forward, the Panthers aim to bounce back in their next outing against Bethune Cookman on February 8, 2025, at the William J. Nicks "Baby Dome" in Houston, Texas. With a current season record of 4-18, and 3-6 in the SWAC, the team is focused on improving and capturing more wins as the season progresses.
Prairie View A&M out-rebounded Texas Southern 44-40 in Saturday's game, paced by Pettway's seven boards. The Panthers also pulled down 21 offensive rebounds and scored 17 second-chance points.
Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Texas Southern shots in the contest, coming away with five blocks. Ryan Bolton Jr. led the way individually for the Panthers with two rejections.
