J. Thomas leads the Lady Panthers past South Carolina State

BOX SCORE COVINGTON, Ga. -  Janaiya Thomas collected four hits on four at bats, as Prairie View A&M University defeated South Carolina State University 11-4 on Friday morning. Thomas hit a solo home run to center field in the fifth inning, tripled in the sixth inning, singled in the first inning, and singled in the second inning.

South Carolina State University got on the board in the top of the first inning after Jamaria Charley hit an inside the park home run, and Taylor Ames-Alexander doubled to center field, each scoring one run.

The Lady Panthers flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring five runs on three hits to take the lead, 5-2. The biggest blow in the inning was a ground out by Cailin Massey that drove in one.

Prairie View A&M added one run in the second after Massey grounded out.

PVAM added one run in the third. Kearstin Tinsley singled to the left side of the infield, making the score 7-2.

Thomas hit a solo home run to center field in the bottom of the fifth for the Prairie View A&M University.

Brielle Moreno earned the win for Prairie View A&M.  The pitcher allowed seven hits and four runs over five innings, striking out five and walking three. Ciara Farrar took the loss for South Carolina State University. The pitcher went four and two-thirds innings, surrendering nine runs (seven earned) on six hits, striking out one and walking four. H Elizarraras tossed two innings of shutout ball for Prairie View A&M University in relief. The hurler gave up two hits, striking out two and walking none.

Mis Nunez collected two hits for Prairie View A&M University in three at bats. Prairie View A&M University had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Breyana Jackson and Aerin Talley led the team with two free passes each. Thomas, Tinsley, Jackson, and Talley each stole multiple bases for Prairie View A&M University. The Lady Panthers stole nine bases in the game.

Ames-Alexander drove the middle of the lineup, leading South Carolina State University with two runs batted in. The 3-hole hitter went 2-for-4 on the day. Ames-Alexander, Charley, and Marley Quammie each collected two hits for South Carolina State University. Quammie stole two bases. South Carolina State University stole three bases in the game. South Carolina State University turned one double play in the game.

Prairie View A&M University will face University of Maryland Eastern Shore for game two on Friday.
