2024 Fall Volleyball Recap

Final Record: 17-16 Overall | 13-3 SWAC

The Prairie View A&M University volleyball team wrapped up the 2024 fall season with a strong 17-16 overall record and an impressive 13-3 mark in SWAC play. The Lady Panthers showcased resilience, depth, and development throughout the year, battling through a competitive schedule and earning postseason recognition on both the conference and national stage.

Team Performance Overview

The Lady Panthers were a well-rounded squad, executing efficiently on both sides of the net. Offensively, they totaled 1,305 kills while hitting .190 as a team. Defensively, Prairie View held opponents to a .176 attack percentage and consistently won the battle at the net, averaging 2.2 blocks per set compared to their opponents' 1.6.

Team Statistical Highlights:

  • Kills per set: 11.5

  • Assists per set: 10.8

  • Digs per set: 15.1

  • Blocks per set: 2.2

  • Aces: 161

  • Total Blocks: 248.5

Behind a balanced lineup and a commitment to defense, PVAMU out-dug its opponents (1,705 vs. 1,647) and posted more block assists (369 to 246), helping them close out key matches in SWAC play.

Standout Players and Accolades

Kylee Owens – A Season to Remember

Outside hitter Kylee Owens delivered one of the most memorable individual seasons in program history. The Culver City, Calif., native amassed:

  • 355 kills

  • 47 service aces

  • 318 digs

  • 3.32 kills/set

  • Surpassed 1,000 career kills

Her all-around excellence earned her a sweep of major honors, including:

  • 2024 SWAC Volleyball Player of the Year

  • All-SWAC First Team

  • AVCA Southwest All-Region Honorable Mention

  • 2024 AVCA Division I All-America Honorable Mention

"This is huge for Kylee, the team, and the University," said former Head Volleyball Coach Cheri Lindsay. "She has been an instrumental part of this team. First receiving SWAC Player of the Year and now this—I'm incredibly proud of her."

Owens' achievements have elevated the program nationally and stand as a testament to her consistency, leadership, and elite-level play.

More Postseason Honors

Three Lady Panthers earned SWAC postseason honors, marking the strength of this year's roster:

  • 🏅 Janyah Henderson, a dominant presence at middle blocker, earned All-SWAC Second Team honors. She contributed 160 kills, a .255 hitting percentage, and 93.0 total blocks, establishing herself as a key anchor at the net.

  • 🏅 Leah Lawson, the team's primary setter, also garnered All-SWAC Second Team recognition. Lawson tallied a team-high 466 assists (5.18/set) and added 196 digs, playing a pivotal role in both offensive flow and back-row defense.

Together, Owens, Henderson, and Lawson led the Panthers through a competitive SWAC campaign and helped lay the foundation for future success.

As the team transitions into offseason training under the guidance of new head volleyball Coach Dottie Hampton preparations for the 2025 campaign has begun, and the 2024 season serves as a benchmark of growth and achievement. With seasoned returners and rising talent, the Prairie View A&M volleyball program is poised to build on this momentum and continue its climb within the SWAC and beyond.

The future is bright for the Lady Panthers—and the legacy of this season will continue to inspire.
