2025 First Day of Football Practice

A Tough Start to Fall Camp: Coach Jackson Calls for a Higher Standard After Day One

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The first whistle of the 2025 preseason blew Wednesday morning as the Prairie View A&M Panthers opened fall football camp under the leadership of new head coach Tremaine Jackson. While the excitement of a new era was in the air, Coach Jackson didn't hold back when evaluating the team's first official practice.

In a candid post-practice media session, Jackson made it clear that the standard at Prairie View A&M will be different moving forward and that today didn't meet it.

"I didn't like it. Our guys were not ready for today," Jackson stated. "We are use to practicing a different way. Maybe with some people, it would have been a good practice, but for us we weren't satisfied with how things went. Today was not our best day."

While there were flashes of potential, the overall execution and preparedness did not align with the expectations set by Coach Jackson and his staff.

"Luckily it was just the first day, but we must get better in a lot of areas — on the field and support staff-wise. We need to clean up!" Jackson continued. "We're used to a different product, and we are not going to change for anyone else."

Jackson's direct approach signals a culture shift at PVAMU, where excellence is not just expected — it's required. While there's plenty of time to make adjustments before the season opener, the head coach is clearly looking to raise the bar across every aspect of the program.

The Panthers will return to the practice field this week as they build toward the 40th Annual Labor Day Classic against Texas Southern on August 30 at the Shell Energy Stadium in Houston.
