PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas – The energy was high, the tempo was fast, and the tone for the 2025 season was officially set as the Prairie View A&M women's soccer team took the field for the first day of preseason camp under third-year head coach Abe Garcia.
With 16 newcomers blending in with 11 returners, the Lady Panthers didn't waste any time making an impression.
"Excitement is the only way I can describe practice today," said Garcia following the opening session. "The ladies came out with a lot of energy, and I definitely believe we set a tone going into the season. It's good to see that over the summer they did a lot of work. It's a shift in the culture that we're trying to build. It was really great. I couldn't even sleep last night because I was so anxious to see what we would look like."
The Lady Panthers are coming off a competitive 2024 campaign and are now focused on building momentum early with a fresh group of student-athletes and renewed focus. As they prepare for a challenging schedule ahead, Day One served as a strong foundation for the culture and competitiveness Coach Garcia has emphasized throughout his tenure.
The team will continue training over the coming weeks in preparation for their season opener. The first test for the Lady Panthers will be an exhibition match versus Northe American University on August with a 6:00 pm first kick.
