Lady Panthers Drop Season Opener to Montana State

BOZEMAN, MT --The Prairie View A&M volleyball team could not beat an opposing Bobcats offense Friday on the road losing to Montana State in straight sets (16-25, 23-25, 19-25).

The non-conference loss dropped Prairie View A&M to 0-1 on the season.

The Lady Panthers offense was paced by D'Mya Hill, who finished with 13 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .278, and by Kylee Owens, who had 10. Defensively, had two players reach double figures in digs as Leila Smalls had 15 and Tayler Ruffin had 14.

How It Happened

SET 1 | The Lady Panthers found themselves in an early deficit, dropping a tough first set 25-16. Prairie View A&M trailed by as many as nine points as Montana State grabbed the advantage for good at 9-8 in a set that was tied up two times before the Bobcats took control.

SET 2 | A 25-23 second-set loss put Prairie View A&M in a 2-0 hole in the match. The Lady Panthers dropped the second set in spite of a solid showing on the attacking end. Prairie View A&M put together a .303 attack percentage with 15 kills in the set loss.

SET 3 | Prairie View A&M couldn't prolong the match and lost in set number three. The Lady Panthers lost a tough set 25-19. Prairie View A&M trailed by as many as seven points as Montana State grabbed the advantage for good at 6-5 in a set that was tied up three times before the Bobcats took over the lead.

The team will return to action on Saturday, August 30 when they face Oregon for game two of the Montana State Tournament.  The first serve is set for 2:00 pm.
