Wells has double-double in Prairie View A&M's 73-61 victory over UAPB

PRAIRIE VIEW, TX -- Cory Wells secured a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds to help the Prairie View A&M men's basketball team defeat the UAPB Golden Lions 73-61 at home Monday.

In addition to Wells' impressive output, the Panthers (8-9, 3-1) were led by Lance Williams, who had 14 points and seven assists, and by Dontae Horne, who added 18 points.

Prairie View A&M took advantage of fantastic ball movement in Monday's game, piling up 15 assists on 24 made field goals. Williams' seven assists led the distribution list for the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M forced 14 UAPB turnovers while committing only seven themselves in Monday's game. The Panthers turned those takeaways into 19 points on the offensive end of the floor. Wells' three steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.

How It Happened

After jumping out to a 10-9 advantage, Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run with 13:11 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Horne, to increase its lead to 15-9. The Panthers then lost some of that lead, but still entered halftime with a 32-30 advantage. Prairie View A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 16 of its 32 points close to the basket.

Following intermission, Prairie View A&M kept widening that lead, expanding it to 44-41 before going on a 7-0 run to grow the lead to 51-41 with 13:51 to go in the contest. The Panthers kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 73-61 win. Prairie View A&M capitalized on nine UAPB turnovers in the period, collecting 12 points off those turnovers.
