Prairie View A&M falls 76-75 to Alcorn State on buzzer-beater

LORMAN, MS --The Prairie View A&M men's basketball team fell to the Alcorn State Braves 76-75 on the road Monday on Davian Williams' buzzer-beating shot with only two seconds left in the game.

The Panthers (8-11, 3-2) had three players score in double figures, led by Dontae Horne, who had 32 points and three steals. Cory Wells tacked on 19 points, eight rebounds and three blocks and Lance Williams helped out with 10 points and five assists.

Prairie View A&M utilized fantastic ball movement in Monday's game, piling up 15 assists on 26 made field goals. Lance Williams' five assists were the most for the Panthers.

Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Alcorn State shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Wells' three rejections led the way individually for the Panthers.

How It Happened

After falling behind 39-34, Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run with 1:30 left in the first half, culminating in a three from Horne, to tie the game at 39, a score that would hold until halftime. Prairie View A&M ran the floor well in the period, scoring 16 fast break points.

Alcorn State then snagged a 70-62 advantage before Prairie View A&M responded by going on an 8-0 run, finished off by Lance Williams' layup, to even the score at 70 all with 4:09 to go in the contest. The Panthers could not turn their rally into a victory, as the Braves outscored them 6-5 the rest of the way to hand Prairie View A&M the 76-75 loss. Prairie View A&M got out on the break in the period, scoring 16 fast break points.
