PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas — The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team continues SWAC play Saturday afternoon, welcoming Mississippi Valley State for a 2 p.m. tip inside the William J. Nicks Building.

Prairie View A&M enters the matchup looking to build off a strong defensive performance in its most recent outing against Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Despite the final score, the Lady Panthers showcased their defensive identity, holding the Golden Lions to just 29.9 percent shooting from the field and limiting UAPB to 15 percent from three-point range on 26 attempts.

The Lady Panthers also forced 19 turnovers, consistently disrupting UAPB's offensive rhythm and creating extra scoring opportunities.

Offensively, Prairie View A&M leaned on its young core. Alana Shields paced the Lady Panthers with a game-high 18 points, while Shields, Margan Allen, and Ja'nya Polk combined to account for 78 percent of the team's scoring output. Polk added a team-high nine rebounds, anchoring the effort on the glass.

Saturday's contest marks another key SWAC opportunity as Prairie View A&M looks to translate its defensive pressure into a full 40-minute performance against Mississippi Valley State. The Devilettes enter the weekend seeking their first conference win, while the Lady Panthers aim to defend their home court and continue establishing momentum early in league play.

Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m.
