Prairie View A&M never trails in 10-4 victory against Jackson State

PEARL, Miss. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never surrendered the advantage on the way to a 10-4 win against the Jackson State Tigers on Friday.

Beau Beaty (1-0) got the win for Prairie View A&M (1-0). The right-hander went five innings, giving up one run on three hits, allowing two walks and striking out five.

In the batter's box, the Panthers were led by Corie Lockette, who went 2-for-5 on the day with a home run and two RBIs.  Jordan Williams put together a standout performance at the dish as well, going 2-for-4 with a double, a walk and an RBI. Tyvon Moore also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in three trips to the plate while adding two doubles and a walk.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Panthers got the scoring started early, putting one run on the board in the top of the first inning.

The Tigers failed to push any runs across before the Panthers offense got back to their scoring ways the next inning. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Ryland Duson, which brought the Panthers lead to 6-0.

Prairie View A&M kept Jackson State scoreless before expanding their lead to 7-0 the following inning.

The Tigers fought back, closing the gap to 7-1 until Prairie View A&M added some insurance in the fourth. The Panthers sent in two runs when a single from Michael Burroughs brought home Moore and Williams, bringing the score to 9-1 in favor of Prairie View A&M.

The Panthers kept Jackson State off the scoreboard before building on their lead to 10-1 in the seventh inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Hunter Ham. Jackson State put three runs on the scoreboard before the game was over, but the Panthers still coasted to the 10-4 win.
