HUNTSVILLE, Texas — The Prairie View A&M Panthers split a Saturday softball doubleheader in Huntsville, dropping an 8-6 decision to the Houston Christian Huskies in the opener before bouncing back with a hard-fought 3-2 victory over the Sam Houston Bearkats in the nightcap.

Prairie View A&M opened the day with a strong offensive showing but came up just short in an 8-6 loss to Houston Christian Huskies.
Senior Mia Nunez powered the Panthers' attack, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, two RBIs and a walk. Prairie View A&M jumped out early, plating four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a two-run double from Nunez.
Senior Madalyne Martinez (3-7) took the loss in the circle, while sophomore Caden Young provided a bright spot out of the bullpen with one scoreless inning, striking out two without allowing a hit.
After Houston Christian erased the early deficit, Prairie View A&M chipped away late. The Panthers scored once in the sixth and again in the seventh to close within 8-6, but were unable to complete the comeback. Prairie View A&M finished the game drawing five walks and stranding 13 runners on base.

The Panthers responded in the nightcap, using a decisive three-run third inning to secure a 3-2 win over Sam Houston Bearkats.
Senior Kyla Adams (3-1) delivered a complete-game effort, allowing two earned runs on six hits while striking out two to earn the win. Offensively, Nunez continued her strong day, going 1-for-3 with a two-run home run that accounted for the go-ahead runs in the third inning. Senior Dyani Mckinley added a triple to help spark the rally.
Sam Houston added a late run, but Adams and the Panther defense held firm down the stretch to seal the victory.
With the split, Prairie View A&M closed Saturday at 6-7 overall, showcasing resilience and balanced contributions on both sides of the ball.
