LAS CRUCES, NM --Prairie View A&M got contributions from every part of their lineup, as all nine starters reached base safely, but the Panthers fell to the New Mexico State Aggies 7-2 Saturday.
Kelvin Battles (0-1) took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (3-6). Kenneth Haynes started the ballgame and went six innings, surrendering two runs, both earned, on seven hits, walking one and striking out two.
At the plate, the Panthers were paced by John Lawson, who went 1-for-4 on the day with a triple and an RBI. Sonnier Moses put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 1-for-2 with a double and two walks. Michael Burroughs also contributed for Prairie View A&M, putting together two hits in four trips to the plate while adding an RBI.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Panthers put runs on the scoreboard first, starting the scoring in the second inning. Prairie View A&M scratched across a run off J. Price when Lawson tripled in Moses.
After the Aggies rallied to tie the ballgame at one, the Panthers came back to retake the lead in the fifth inning. Prairie View A&M scored once on an RBI single off the bat of Burroughs, which brought the Panthers lead to 2-1. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as New Mexico State scored six times over the remaining four innings to grab the 7-2 win.
