PRAIRIE VIEW, TX --Joey Madimba and Dontae Horne combined to score 44 total points - 61.1 percent of Prairie View A&M's points - in the Panthers 72-51 victory against the Alcorn State Braves at home Saturday during senior night.
The Panthers (13-17, 8-9) had three players score in double figures, led by Madimba, who had 28 points and two blocks. Horne added 16 points, six rebounds, six assists, two steals and three blocks and Lance Williams helped out with 11 points and six rebounds.
Prairie View A&M shared the ball well in Saturday's game, racking up 16 assists on 29 made field goals. Horne's six assists paced the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M's defense held Alcorn State to only 30.9 percent shooting from the field. The Braves did not have much luck cleaning up their misses on the offensive glass either, as they finished with five offensive rebounds and managed five second chance points while Prairie View A&M cleared 34 defensive rebounds.
How It Happened
After jumping out to a 14-10 advantage, Prairie View A&M went on an 8-0 run with 14:49 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Madimba, to increase its lead to 22-10. The Panthers then added two points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 36-22 advantage. Prairie View A&M did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 24 of its 36 points close to the basket.
Prairie View A&M kept its lead intact before going on a 9-0 run, finished off by Horne's layup, to grow the lead to 53-31 with 10:59 to go in the contest. The Braves narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Panthers still cruised the rest of the way for the 72-51 win. Prairie View A&M took care of business in the paint, recording 22 of its 36 points in the lane.
