Lady Panthers Rally for Historic Win Over Houston in Austin Split

AUSTIN, Texas — Prairie View A&M softball split a Saturday doubleheader in Austin, falling to No. 3 Texas Longhorns before rallying for a landmark win over the Houston Cougars, marking the Lady Panthers' first victory over Houston since the two programs last met in 2024.

Game 1 | Texas 8, Prairie View A&M 0

Junior Kayla Adams (4-4) took the loss for Prairie View A&M Panthers, while senior Mia Nunez led the offense with a 1-for-2 effort that included a double and a walk. Prairie View A&M's best scoring chance came in the third inning when Nunez reached third base with one out, but the Panthers were unable to push a run across.

Game 2 | Prairie View A&M 7, Houston 5

The Lady Panthers answered in dramatic fashion in the nightcap, rallying from a 5-4 deficit to secure a 7-5 victory over Houston. Sophomore Caden Young (1-0) earned the win with 1.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen, while freshman Kayla Adams added two scoreless frames to help close the door.

Prairie View A&M struck first in the third inning on an RBI single from freshman Morgan Smith, then surged ahead in the fourth behind a two-RBI double from Nunez. After Houston briefly took the lead, the Panthers reclaimed control with a three-run sixth inning and held on down the stretch.

Junior Jade Uresti paced the offense with three hits and two stolen bases, as every Panther starter reached base safely. Prairie View A&M out-hit Houston 13-10, with four Panthers recording multiple hits, to secure a win that snapped a drought against the Cougars.

The team will return to action with a first pitch set for noon on Sunday March 1 versus Houston to close out the Longhorn Invitational.
