TALLAHASSEE, FL --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 21-point performance from the bench, but fell 80-61 to the Florida A&M Rattlers on the road Thursday.
The Lady Panthers (2-19, 0-10) had three players score in double figures, led by Crystal Schultz, who had 22 points and two steals. Cj Wilson tacked on 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals and Margan Allen helped out with 10 points off of the bench.
Led by Laila Robinson's six offensive rebounds, Prairie View A&M did a great job crashing the offensive glass, pulling down 17 boards that resulted in 10 second chance points.
Prairie View A&M forced 14 Florida A&M turnovers. The Lady Panthers turned those takeaways into 10 points on the offensive end of the floor. Wilson's three steals led the way for Prairie View A&M.
How It Happened
Prairie View A&M entered the second quarter tied at 11-11 after a tightly contested first period. Prairie View A&M got out and ran in the period, scoring four points on the break.
The Rattlers then took control in the second quarter and the Lady Panthers entered haltime behind 34-28.
Florida A&M continued to increase its lead after halftime, building a 48-39 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 7-0 run to trim its deficit to 48-46 with 2:18 to go in the third. Florida A&M countered and stretched its lead to 56-48 heading into the fourth. Prairie View A&M played well near the basket, scoring 10 of its 20 points in the paint.
Florida A&M kept widening its lead in the fourth, constructing an 80-56 advantage before Prairie View A&M went on a 5-0 run, finished off by Allen's layup, to shrink the deficit to 80-61 with five seconds to go in the contest, a score which would hold for the rest of the game. Prairie View A&M took advantage of its opportunities in the post, scoring eight of its 13 points in the paint.
