DELAND, Fla. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers got a boost from freshman Ryland Duson, who racked up three hits in a 16-6 loss to the Stetson Hatters Wednesday.
Junior II Battles (0-2) started and took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (4-11). Junior Ty Pankonin was a bright spot out of the bullpen, going 1.1 shutout innings without allowing a hit, walking none and striking out two.
In addition to his three hits, Duson had a home run and three RBIs to lead the Panthers. Junior Hunter Ham compiled a standout effort as well, going 1-for-3 with a walk and two RBIs. Corie Lockette also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in two trips to the plate while adding two walks.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 5-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Lockette came across to score the lone run of the inning for Prairie View A&M and get them on the board.
The Panthers kept the Hatters off the board before narrowing the gap further in the sixth. Prairie View A&M picked up a pair of runs in the frame, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Hatters.
Stetson built their lead to 7-3 before the Prairie View A&M offense got going, reducing that lead to 7-6 in the seventh. The Panthers picked up three runs in the frame, all of them coming across after a groundout by Duson. The Panthers were unable to get any closer, as Stetson added nine runs to their tally on the way to a 16-6 final.
