JACKSON, Miss. --The Prairie View A&M Panthers held an 8-7 lead into the ninth inning, but could not hold on and fell 9-8 to the Jackson State Tigers Saturday.
Alejandro Marquez (0-2) took the loss on the mound for Prairie View A&M (5-16, 1-4).
At the plate, the Panthers were led by Ryland Duson, who went 2-for-3 on the day with a double, two walks and three RBIs. Ethan Walker put together a noteworthy day at the plate as well, going 3-for-4 with a double, a walk and two RBIs. Tyvon Moore also helped out for Prairie View A&M, putting together one hit in three trips to the plate while adding two RBIs.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Trailing 3-0, the Panthers first put runs on the board in the fourth inning. Prairie View A&M scored twice on a two-run double off the bat of Duson.
The Panthers kept the Tigers off the board before taking the lead in the fifth. Prairie View A&M scored three runs in the frame, buoyed by a two-run single off the bat of Moore, which brought the score to 5-3 in favor of the Panthers.
Prairie View A&M held Jackson State scoreless before expanding their lead to 6-3 the following inning. The Panthers scored once on an RBI single off the bat of .
The Tigers then tied up the ballgame at six before Prairie View A&M came back to retake their advantage in the eighth inning. Ethan Walker's run-scoring single brought home one run in a two-run output for the Panthers, bringing the Prairie View A&M advantage to 8-6. The Panthers were unable to hold the lead, as Jackson State scored three times over the remaining one inning to grab the 9-8 win.
