Prairie View A&M falls 111-64 to Texas Southern

HOUSTON, TX --The Prairie View A&M women's basketball team got a 26-point showing from the bench, but fell 111-64 to the Texas Southern Tigers on the road Thursday.

The Lady Panthers (2-27, 0-18) had three players score in double figures, led by Margan Allen, who had 17 points. Crystal Schultz tacked on 14 points and Alana Shields helped out with 14 points, four assists and two blocks.

Marckalia Celestine pulled down five offensive rebounds to pace an offense that racked up second chance opportunities for Prairie View A&M, grabbing 18 boards and turning them into 12 second chance points.

Prairie View A&M did a great job disrupting Texas Southern shots in the contest, coming away with six blocks. Preston Young led the way individually for the Lady Panthers with two rejections.

How It Happened

Prairie View A&M struggled out of the gate, falling behind 30-14 at the end of the first quarter.

The Lady Panthers continued to lose ground in the second quarter and faced a 58-31 halftime deficit.

Prairie View A&M's deficit continued to grow after halftime, and the Lady Panthers faced an 81-46 disadvantage heading to the fourth quarter. Prairie View A&M knocked down three three-pointers in the quarter to score nine of its 15 total points.

Prairie View A&M could not pull any closer in the fourth, losing by a final of 111-64. Prairie View A&M took advantage of four Texas Southern turnovers in the quarter, scoring five points off of those takeaways.
